2nd International Imagined Australia Research Forum,
AILAE at the Alliance Française Gallery, Bari, Italy. 2009.
Curated by Renata Sumo-O’Connell.

puralia meenamatta Jim Everett and Jonathan Kimberley, Meenamatta Water Country Discussion, Exhibition Opening at Alliance Francais Gallery / AILAE / Universita’ di Bari, Italy, 2009.

The exhibition was an official launch event of the 2nd International Imagined Australia Research Forum, at the Universita’ di Bari, in partnership with the Universita’ di Calabria (17-19 June 2009). The conference was an enquiry into contemporary borders, theory and art journeys in the reciprocal construction of identity between Australia and Europe.

In response to the forum’s theme: Borders, theory, art and power, Jim & Jonathan presented a collaborative conference paper titled, Paradise : Working Exmodern.

[Other speakers at the 2nd IAIRF included scholars and artists, Prof. Ghassan Hage (University of Melbourne); Dr. Mireille Astore (Sydney College of the Arts); Prof. Ian Mc Lean ( UWA); Prof. Aileen Moreton Robinson (Queensland Univ. of Technology)].

The installation, Meenamatta Water Country Discussion (Italy), combined walantanalinany (meenamatta water country) – beyond the colonial construct : meenamatta map of unlandscape (2006) (diptych) with a sound Installation of spoken word by Kimberley & Everett, articulating the writing embedded within the overall work.
